at a much lower subsidy per vehicle mile.
Total Subsidy is $117 million to provide 73 million vehicle miles per year.
Compare to Cap Metro revenue from sales tax in for 2008 : $160 million.
Current vehicle miles per year is only 13 million.

Express Bus Annual Mileage Estimate


Express Miles per Year during 30 peak hours a week  :   
17 miles x 55 routes x 2 directions x 6 trips per hour x 30 hours x 52 weeks = 17.5 million miles

Express Miles per Year during 82 off-peak hours a week  :
17 miles x 27 routes x 2 directions x 6 trips per hour x 82 hours x 52 weeks = 23.5 million miles

Passenger miles per year :
80,000 riders x 8 miles one way x 2 trips per day x 250 work days per year
= 320 million express passenger miles per year

320 million pass-miles / 41 million vehicle miles = 7.8 riders per vehicle

Vehicle Miles and Passenger Miles by Vehicle Size

10 million miles by bus with an average load of 20 riders = 200 million passenger miles per year

30 million miles by van with an average load of 4 riders = 120 million passenger miles per year

200 + 120 = 320 million passenger miles by express vehicles



Feeder Route Annual Mileage Estimate

Feeder Routes :    225 square miles / 1.5 sq mile per route              = 150 routes
Trips per route per day : 6 trips per hour x 16 hours per day                = 96 trips
Vehicle Miles per Day : 150 routes x 6 miles/rt x 96 trips per day         = 86,400
Vehicle Miles per Year : 365 x 86,400 = 32 million

Passenger miles per year :
 80,000 riders x 4 trips/day x 2 miles per trip x 250 work days = 160 million

Average number of riders per vehicle mile : 160 / 32 = 5

Vehicle Miles and Passenger Miles by Vehicle Size

3 million miles by bus with an average load of 20 riders = 60 million passenger miles per year

29 million miles by van with an average load of 3.5 riders = 101 million passenger miles per year
      
60 + 101 = 161 million passenger miles by feeder vehicles
